Thalappally Pullolickal Kudumbayogam
It is believed that St.Thomas, the disciple of Jesus Christ who came to India in AD 52 landed in Kodungallur and converted many Brahmins into Christianity. In Nilackal (Chaayal), a famous Brahmin family by name ‘Thalappally’ embraced Christianity from St.Thomas.The successors of this family constitute the now famous ‘Thalappally Pullolickal’ family in Thottackad.Due to the rift between the Brahmins and Christians in Nilackal, the head of ‘Thalappally family shifted residence to Kuravilangad where Christians were the majority. He settled in a property called ‘Pulloli’ and thus came to be known later by this name. In course of time due to many local factions ‘Thalappally Pullolickal’ families shifted to Manarcadu and later to Thottackad. ‘Thalappally Eapen(A),head of ‘Thalappally Pullolickal’ family settled in Thottackad in 1638, for which ample evidence like palmleaf inscriptions exist.
